You might not be aware that the funniest and arguably most wonderful fact about Britain is that here in Britain, we have a Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Officer. It is rumoured that the first cat hired officially for such purposes was idea of Henry VIII (many centuries ago).

They are always adopted, beloved by the press, and do an important task. They’re also an excellent visual focus when waiting on a prime minister to actually say something important.
